What the manufacturer documents
iRobot lists the vacuum, Clean Base and dirt-disposal bag in the package, and describes the dual rubber brushes. Its performance and pet-obstacle language is manufacturer marketing, not our independent test result.
When we would choose each system
For a large area of mop-safe hard flooring, start with the S5A if carrying water and cleaning dock parts is an acceptable trade for fewer manual mopping sessions. You are buying help with two jobs, so compare the dock workload as well as the robot.
For mostly carpet or a household that already uses a separate wet cleaner, start with vacuum-only models such as the j9+. Paying for mop automation makes less sense if it solves a chore you do not have. Neither choice here is a claim about measured carpet pickup.
Make the dock fit your routine
Before ordering, mark the proposed dock position and check the exact model’s installation clearances in its manual. Leave access to remove the bag or bin and any water tanks. An impressive dock is a poor fit if it blocks a doorway or makes routine servicing awkward.
Compare the ongoing supplies you will actually buy: compatible bags, filters and brushes, plus mop cloths and approved cleaning solution where applicable. Do not assume a photograph’s spare supplies are included or that one brand’s parts fit another model.
Check the suffix before trusting a review
The Qrevo Edge S5A is a distinct configuration. Roborock’s support comparison says it uses LDS and structured light, while the full Edge also has an RGB camera. The S5A also differs in threshold handling and other features. Read the exact S5A source rather than transferring full-Edge capabilities to this listing.
Likewise, Roomba j9+ and Roomba Combo j9+ are different products. The vacuum-only model linked here cannot be turned into the Combo by selecting a cleaning mode. If you want both jobs automated, compare an identified Roomba Combo model with an identified vacuum-and-mop competitor.
Do not turn a suction number into a cleaning verdict
A manufacturer’s pressure figure is not a controlled carpet-pickup comparison. Brushes, floor type, navigation and cleaning passes all influence the result. We omit cross-brand suction equivalents and do not declare a pet-hair winner from the specifications.
For an obstacle-heavy room, look for an independent test of the exact model with objects similar to yours. Until then, remove troublesome cords and small items before the first runs. Treat marketing about pet waste as a claim with specific terms, not permission to leave an accident on the floor.
Before buying
Is Roborock always better at mopping?
No brand-wide conclusion follows from this pair. The S5A mops and the selected j9+ does not; that is a configuration difference. A comparison with a Roomba Combo needs its own exact-model evidence.
Which is better for pet hair?
We cannot name a measured winner from the sources used here. Compare independently tested pickup and brush maintenance on the exact models, then consider your carpet and pet-hair mix.
Are the docks maintenance-free?
No. Automatic emptying and mop care shift chores to the dock. Inspect consumables, tanks, brushes, sensors and dock parts according to the model’s manual.
Are these the newest or cheapest options?
No such claim is made. These are identifiable examples with direct listings. Compare current models, included accessories, condition, warranty terms and delivered total before deciding.
